TMC Newsletter Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2023
It is summertime in Texas as we publish this newsletter. For those of us ‘of a certain age’, summertime in Texas was the perfect time for marble games. In the summer heat, kids would find a shade tree with plenty of packed dirt, sweep the area clean, select the marbles for targets, and draw the circle—game on.
Robert Keoghan, one of our members “of a certain age” from Seguin, remembers that he would always leave home on these summer days with a pants pocket containing a knife, two nickels (e.g., if he had cleaned out the barn), and marbles. He named his favorite shooter “Marbelie” and after fifty years continues to display “Marbelie” along with selected marbles he won in a summer competition with his brother, George.
What good memories. Read more in the newsletter.
TMC Newsletter Volume 2, Issue 4, May 2023
Were you able to attend our TMC Spring Marble Show? Carroll Collier and our Board produced a fine marble experience. With the Bluebonnets in bloom, it took a great display of marbles to compete; Carroll, our vendors, and guests gave the Bluebonnets good competition.
We had several rooms open Thursday evening; Friday was a very active evening—the Board covered the cost of our evening meal; 10 to 15 rooms opened before and after the evening meal. We set 25 tables Saturday. Six new collections came in; Joe Levell made marbles ‘just outside the back door’; and we had great walk-in activity. After completing our Spring Show, we start planning for our Fall Marble Show in October.

This issue of the Newsletter is devoted to Akro Agate Marbles – 2019
The Akro Agate company started in 1910 in Akron, Ohio. Their first packaged-for-sale marbles were made by M.F. Christensen. They moved and began production in Clarks-burg, West Virginia in 1914. They first made slag marbles. Akro was purchasing marbles from M.F. Christensen in those early years.
